The most important site in the area of Heraklion, with the famous Palace from the Minoan civilization, whose undergrounds gave birth to the legend of the Minotaur.
Controversial interventions were made by its main excavator,
a British antique museum director, Arthur Evans, using concrete and plaster
to reconstruct and reproduce structures and paintings, but as it is,
it has been attracting tourists from all over the world for decades
and is one of the most visited places in Crete and in Greece.
