MACEDONIA

One thing defines Macedonia: the dinasty of Philip II and Alexander the Great. The largest region in Greece, taking up most of the North, is the arrow that spread Hellenism during the apex of the Greek culture. The father set the basis by unifying Greece. The son took it further, going as far as India. Being in that geographic position, Macedonia features particular historical and political aspects. The best way to get a real feel of it is to start where it all began: the capital of the kingdom. Ancient Aigai, now Vergina, is the site of the palace and burrial of King Philip II and close relatives, the most important archaeological finding of the XX Century. Then, of course, the modern capital, Thessaloniki, Princess of the North, a cultural mosaic and second

biggest city in Greece. Proceed to Halkidiki peninsula, a natural paradise and place of sacred Mount Oros,

the greatest Byzantine complex in the nation, with 20 monasteries. To crown your trip with a golden lace,

visit Ancient Stagira, home of Aristotle, master of Alexander and of us all. An undetachable part of the world's history, Macedonia is sure to enlighten you of what it means to be Greek and what Greece is all about.
