This picturesque settlement of traditional slate rooftop houses is one of the oldest in Pelion, founded by Greeks fleeing pirate attacks at Evia. The 400m height at Mount Dikri provided good protection to the hidden village, since it cannot be seen from the sea, although the Pagasetic Gulf can be seen from a few view points. The name comes from apple trees, one of the fruits from the region. Many streams and natural water fountains, together with rich vegetation, make this mountainous area a pleasant one all year long.
