THERMOPYLAE
The name, meaning hot gates, derives from the thermal waters gushing from
the ground since forever. This whole geographic area of Greece, following the mountain range from Phtiotis to Northern Evia, is typical for hot springs of various compositions and temperatures. This special place, however, is most celebrated
for the epic battle that took place on its coast in August 480 B.C, when only 1000 fearless soldiers, under Spartan King Leonidas, faced and fought hundreds of thousands of Persians, in the most impressively unequal combat of all times.
