THE MANI
Central peninsula at the Southern end of Peloponnese, between the Messenian and the Laconian gulfs. It is the furthest extension of the Taygetos mountain range. The capital is Areopolis, on the West side. Being very mountainous and not so easy to reach, it remains a refuge of peace, especially far South, accessible through one only road, which makes a Y towards Gythio, on the East side.
Home of the Maniots, very strong, independent people, the as they are the true descendants of the Spartans. Mani was one of the first centers of the Greek Revolution, and Maniots were the most rebellious resistance to any kind of occupation or submission to other regimens, even Greek.
