PORTO KAGIO

Ancient Greeks believed that this place had passages to the underworld.

Spartans built several temples in the area,

the very end of mainland Greece and the Balkan peninsula.

A close point to Africa, thus in the migration route of several birds.

A former pirate’s nest and scenery of battles, now a peaceful destination for those who want a real feel of the Maniot atmosphere.  The present name comes from Venetian and Frankish occupation. Ruins from the past are scattered along this thin tip of land with beaches on both sides, in the most remote piece of Greece.
